Common Web Hosting Mistakes

They say a wise man is someone
who learns from his mistakes. A
genius is someone who learns
from other people's mistakes.
Given we are all geniuses, let's
go over some of the most common
Web Hosting Mistakes people
make.
1) Wow, That is Cheap.
Hosting is no different. You
get what you pay for. One
problem with web hosting is,
virtually anybody could setup a
server in their parents'
basement and start selling web
hosting. In order to compete
with well-established hosting
companies, they will offer
extremely low prices. The fact
of the matter is, Web Hosting is
not cheap to offer. Companies
have to pay their customer
service representatives, their
technicians, electricity,
heating, cooling, equipment. We
have been in the hosting
industry for over 20 years and
we have heard over and over
again that someone purchased
cheap hosting, woke up one day,
and there was not a trace of
their website or the hosting
company. So save your the
trouble and don't be a cheapo.
That doesn't mean go and buy the
most expensive hosting plan.
Good thing is, you are already
on
www.HostBidding.com.
Here, reputable hosting
companies compete and bid, so
you can choose the most
appropriate prices hosting plan.
2) Template Based Design
Now this isn't always true.
But, generally speaking,
companies that use $50 design
templates from
MonsterTemplate.com clearly
don't have a large capital to
start with. When companies start
saving on their website design
which is the most important
aspect for their marketing, they
probably won't have very good
equipment or knowledgeable
staff. It's like saying, a car
has a weak engine, but the gas
pedal is great. Usually,
everything is good about a good
car. Same goes for web hosting.
3) Taking Testimonials at
face value
I admit that I have made
fake testimonials, and I am a
professional. Because it is so
easy to get away with it. You
are just typing and you sign it
with someone's name. Come on,
it's the internet, you can do
that. So take advice from a
professional when I say
testimonials are not always
true. If they don't list some
sort of reference or a way to
contact the customer, be aware.
4) Don't Fall for Unlimited
This is probably the biggest
mistake people make. A company
offers 50 MB of space for $5 and
another company offers Unlimited
amount of disk space for $5.
Which one would you pick? As
tempting as it sounds, you
should never buy anything that
has unlimited stuck next to it.
As economists would say,
everything in the world is
scarce. Companies that offer
Unlimited Space or Unlimited
Bandwidth are simply lying.
5) Not Making Backups
Always keep a backup of your own
files. Although many web hosting
company do back up their
customers' data, many don't.
Even if they do, it is still
better to have a full copy of
your website contents on your
computer.
